Meet Abdel
Abdel-Rahman Elnoubi was elected to the Alexandria City Council in 2024 and is serving his first three-year term. Before joining Council, he represented District C on the Alexandria City School Board from 2022 to 2024, after being elected in November 2021.
He has served on the Alexandria City Community Criminal Justice Board and the Building Code Board of Appeals, and as PTA president and secretary at Samuel W. Tucker Elementary School. He has long advocated for police accountability and data transparency, restorative practices in schools, fair labor laws, and workers’ rights.
Abdel is a capital program manager at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and a licensed professional engineer. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from The City College of New York and a master’s in engineering management from George Washington University, and is a graduate of the University of Virginia’s Sorensen Institute.
Born in Chicago to Egyptian immigrant parents, Abdel spent his teenage years in Alexandria, Egypt, and moved to Alexandria, Virginia, in 2011 to work at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He and his wife, Salma, are raising their two children here. In his free time, he plays sports and roasts specialty coffee at home.
